Last year, the natural hair community lost a gem with the unexpected death of co-founder of Miss Jessie’s hair-care products, Titi Branch.
Her untimely death shocked family members, friends, and fans of the product line by the manner in which it happened.
At the age of 45 years-old, TiTi took her life by asphyxiation (deficient supply of oxygen), and it is said that she left behind her parents, sister, nephew and boyfriend. Three weeks before Christmas of last year, it is said that she fell into a deep depression, that she could not escape.
There hasn’t been any statements on the reasoning behind her death, until now.
Miko Branch, sister of Titi Branch, and co- founder of Miss Jessie’s, broke her silence recently, and has said that TiTi’s boyfriend, Anthony Spadafora drove her to suicide.
According to Manhattan Supreme Court papers, Miko claims that (paraphrased)
Anthony Spadafora isolated her from her family, manipulated her and treated her like a human ATM.
According to The New York Post, court papers filed by Miko, allege that Mr. Spadafora “extracted hundreds of thousands of dollars from Titi, in order to launch his beard-care business,Maestro’s Classics; $420,000 to renovate a house in Pennsylvania, and a $135,000 interest-free loan.”
Titi made plans to leave Spadafora when she found out that he made sexual advances toward her trainer, but he allegedly threatened he would release compromising pictures of her that were taken during their relationship.
After Titi passed away, Spadafora allegedly reached out to her parents and told them that TiTi drafted a new will and gave him 50 percent of everything that she owned.
“My sister’s death has been a devastating blow,” Miko told The Post. “It was only after Titi’s death that we learned more about what she’d been going through and how her affairs were being managed.”
